Every edition, permanently

One edition is an opinion. Ten editions is a record. The only path to ten is publishing the first and continuing.

Editions

Each edition keeps its own address and is never edited after publication. If a past edition contains an error, the error stays where it is, a correction note is appended to that page, and the change is recorded below.

Comparisons across editions are only meaningful if past figures do not change. Permanent, unedited addresses are what make the series citable.

Corrections

Every error found after publication: when it was found, who found it, and what changed.

No corrections have been recorded. Edition 1 was published in August 2026. To report an error, open an issue.

The commitment

One edition every January, covering the previous year. Each carries both metrics, the full data behind them, and a changelog.

Stage definitions never change. Methods may improve, and when they do the historical series is recomputed so that comparisons stay honest — with both the old and the new figures recorded here.

The point is not this year's number. It is the same numbers, published for decades, so that the question of whether humanity is getting closer stops being a matter of opinion.
